Articles – are the 7 main divisions of the constitution the first three set up the three branches of government, and the others define the government
Articles of Confederation – was the original document created to govern the United States but ended up being too weak and gave more power to states than national gov’t
Bill of Rights – the first ten amendments of the constitution that define the basic rights of the citizens
Boston Tea Party – was an act of rebellion by Boston citizens against the Stamp and Townshend acts, many people boarded a boat and throw crates of tea into the harbor
Branches of government – the government are divided into three main branches so that no on e part of the gov’t has all the power. This was created so the US wouldn’t have a tyrant.
Checks & balances – a system between the branches of making sure that all the branches cannot make laws or do things that go against the constitution of the will of the people.
Civil War Amendments – amendments 13, 14, 15 that were made during or after the civil war and gave rights to slaves and allowed them to vote
Concurrent powers – are powers that are given to both the national and state gov’t i.e. the power to tax
